The sandstone building, which is now over 100 years old, has begun to show the ravages of time, both inside and out. For the first time in its history it is now the focus of a major renovation project. Scaffolding was erected in June 2006 which is now hidden behind acres of netting. The scaffolding is due to be dismantled in winter 2007 and the work should be completed by 2008. Bern’s famous landmark will then be restored to its former glory and once again be a worthy home for a credible, modern parliament – a reflection of present-day Switzerland.
