At the invitation of Poland, Switzerland's EFTA/EU Delegation will be taking part in the plenary meeting of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs (COSAC) in Warsaw from 8 to 10 June.

The COSAC plenary meeting will take place at the invitation of Poland, which holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) in the first half of 2025. The first day will focus on the most important developments during the Polish council presidency. Other topics include the work programmes of the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as the EU's new multiannual financial framework in view of the current security policy challenges. The second day will focus on the EU's enlargement policy, cyber resilience and the fight against disinformation in Europe.

By participating in these meetings, the Swiss delegation can gain an impression of the mood in Europe on various dossiers that indirectly affect Switzerland and so hear the views of a large number of members of national parliaments rather than the positions of the EU institutions.

COSAC was founded in 1989 and serves as a platform for interparliamentary dialogue. Switzerland has held observer status in the Conference since 2015.

The EFTA/EU delegation will be represented at the meeting in Warsaw by its president, National Council member Thomas Aeschi (SVP, ZG), Council of States member Benedikt Würth (The Centre, SG), and National Council member Hans-Peter Portmann (FDP, ZH).
