Specific responsibilities
The Judicial Committee, which forms part of the Federal Assembly, is responsible for preparing the election and removal from office of judges in the federal courts (Federal Supreme Court, Federal Criminal Court, Federal Administrative Court, Federal Patents Court, Military Court of Cassation), of the Attorney General of the Confederation and his or her deputies, and of the members of the Supervisory Authority of the Office of the Attorney General of the Confederation and the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
The Judicial Committee
- advertises vacant positions of judges, the Attorney General (and deputies) and FDPIC [the posts of members of the Supervisory Authority of the Office of the Attorney General do not necessarily have to be advertised publicly],
- proposes the candidates it has selected to the Federal Assembly and proposes candidates for removal from office,
- determines the details of the employment conditions of judges and of the Attorney General and his or her deputies, and
- reviews nominations for specific offices (e.g. Director of the Swiss Federal Audit Office).
