Specific responsibilities

The Judicial Committee, which is part of the Federal Assembly, is responsible for preparing the election and removal from office of judges in the federal courts (the Federal Court, the Federal Criminal Court, the Federal Administrative Court, the Federal Patents Court and the Military Court of Cassation), the Federal Attorney General and his or her deputies and the members of the supervisory body for the Federal Attorney General’s office.

The Judicial Committee

  • advertises vacant positions for judges and for the Attorney General and his or her deputies (the positions within the supervisory body for the Federal Attorney General’s office do not necessarily have to be advertised publicly);
  • presents the Federal Assembly with a list of the candidates it has selected and suggests which persons should be removed from office;
  • decides on the details of the employment conditions for judges, the Attorney General and his or her deputies.
