Parliamentary foreign policy enables the relevant bodies (Council presidencies, committees, permanent or non-permanent delegations) and members of Parliament to gain their own experience in foreign policy matters and access first-hand information thus enabling to form their own opinions and be able to contribute to the Federal Council's foreign policy as competent partners. Furthermore, parliamentary foreign policy activities make it possible for parliamentarians to help shape and influence political work in interparliamentary organisations, represent Swiss interests at international parliamentary meetings, maintain relations with parliaments of other countries, establish a level of communication that complements the government level and foster a network of parliamentary contacts.
