On 21 and 22 September, the delegations of the Swiss Federal Assembly and the European Parliament responsible for relations with one another will gather for their 36th inter-parliamentary annual meeting in Unterägeri (ZG). This year’s meeting will focus on the close relations between Switzerland and the EU, which are based on the body of treaties consisting of around 20 key bilateral agreements, and over 100 further agreements covering a wide range of policy areas.

Under the co-chairmanship of National Council member Thomas Aeschi (SVP/ZG) and Jørn Dohrmann MEP (EKR, Denmark), members of the EFTA/EU Delegation will meet representatives of the SINEEA Delegation of the European Parliament in Unterägeri (ZG) on 21 and 22 September for the 36th inter-parliamentary annual meeting. In addition to discussing unresolved institutional matters related to the bilateral agreements, the delegates will also address cooperation on migration issues, the impact of the UK’s departure from the EU and trends, opportunities and challenges for free trade.

The Delegation chairman, National Council member Thomas Aeschi, will be accompanied by National Council members Hans Egloff (SVP/ZH), Eric Nussbaumer (SP/BL), Hans-Peter Portmann (FDP/ZH), Kathy Riklin (CVP/ZH), and by Council of States members Karin Keller-Sutter (FDP/SG), Didier Berberat (SP/NE) and Hannes Germann (SVP/SH). National Council member Elisabeth Schneider-Schneiter (CVP/BL) will be attending the meeting in her capacity as vice president of the National Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee. In addition to the EFTA/EU and SINEEA delegations, Claude Maerten, head of the Western Europe Division of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Urs Bucher, the head of the Swiss Mission to the EU in Brussels, will also be present at the talks.
