At the invitation of the president of the National Council, Irène Kälin, the president of Spain’s Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet Lamaña, will visit Switzerland from 27 to 29 September. She will meet in Bern with members of the Foreign Affairs Committees and visit the University of Lausanne and the EPFL to talk to members of the Spanish scientific community and others.

The president of the National Council will welcome Merixtell Batet Lamaña, the president of Spain’s Congress of Deputies, on 28 September in Bern as part of an official visit. A meeting with Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, President of the Swiss Confederation, is also on the agenda.

Ms Batet’s visit to the Federal Palace will provide an opportunity to discuss relations between Switzerland and Spain as well as European relations, particularly in the context of the current energy crisis. The two parliamentary presidents will discuss the latest developments in the Ukraine crisis, a topic that will also be on the agenda of the meeting between Ms Batet and members of the Foreign Affairs Committees.

During her visit to Switzerland, Ms Batet also wishes to focus on research and science. She will visit the federal institute of technology, EPFL, and the University of Lausanne to meet with representatives of the Spanish scientific community in Switzerland. Given the close ties between Switzerland and Spain in the manufacture of the COVID-19 vaccine, Ms Batet will also visit the pharmaceutical company Moderna in Basel.
