Press conference to be held at the AlpTransit Infocentro in Pollegio
On 16-17 May 2011 a Swiss-EU interparliamentary meeting will be held in Lugano. The Swiss delegation for relations with the European Parliament (EFTA/EP), headed by Ignazio Cassis (FDP/TI), will meet the EU parliamentary delegation (DEEA) for relations with Switzerland, headed by Irishman Pat the Cope Gallagher.

At the meeting, the delegates will discuss Swiss-EU relations, energy policy and, in particular, transport policy relating to the north-south transit route. The participants will be addressed by Dr. Giovanni Lombardi on the subject of the “Gottard routes”, and will then have the opportunity to visit the AlpTransit construction site at Pollegio.

The meeting will also be attended by ambassador Michael Reiterer, head of the European Union delegation to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, and by Hanspeter Mock, head of Coordination Policy at the Federal Integration Office FDFA/FDEA.

The meeting, which is taking place in Ticino for the first time, will launch a series of events being held south of the Alps to celebrate the 30th anniversary of parliamentary relations between Switzerland and Europe.

A meeting with the press is scheduled for Tuesday 17 May 2011 at 12 noon at the AlpTransit Gottardo Sud Infocentro in Pollegio.

Headed by National Councillor Ignazio Cassis (PLR/Ticino), the Swiss delegation for relations with the European parliament is made up of 4 members of the Council of States, namely Didier Berberat (Vice-President, PS/Neuchâtel), Eugen David (PDC/St. Gallen), Raphaël Comte (PLR/Neuchâtel) and Hannes Germann (UDC/Schaffhausen), and 5 National Councillors, namely Brigitta Gadient (PBD/Grisons), Hans Kaufmann (UDC/Zurich), Mario Fehr (PS/Zurich), Marlies Baenziger (Greens/Zurich) and Kathy Riklin (PDC/Zurich).
