The president of the Council of States, Thomas Hefti, will be welcomed to Vaduz by the president of the Landtag of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Albert Frick, on Thursday 17 November. The official talks will focus on cultivating the friendly ties between Switzerland and Liechtenstein as well as on various challenges currently facing both countries.

The president of the Liechtenstein Landtag traditionally invites the presidents of Switzerland’s two parliamentary councils to Liechtenstein once a year. Following the visit by the president of the National Council to Vaduz in the summer as part of the meeting of the parliamentary presidents of the German-speaking countries, the president of the Council of States, Thomas Hefti, will travel to Liechtenstein on Thursday.

In addition to the meeting with the Landtag president, a courtesy visit to the deputy prime minister, Sabine Monauni, is also on the agenda. The talks will focus on the effects of the war in Ukraine and the relations between the two countries and the European Union. Discussions will also take place on the close ties between Switzerland and Liechtenstein, which will be honoured next year in a special centenary celebration of the Customs Treaty. Liechtenstein’s strong integration into the Swiss economic area is demonstrated by their current cooperation in preparation for a possible electricity and gas shortage. On the theme of energy, Mr Hefti will visit the electricity museum at the Lawena power station in Triesen and the company Hoval, which produces modern heating and ventilation systems.
