Last spring, the President of the Council of States led a delegation on an official visit to Poland. She will now receive her counterpart, Marshal of the Polish Senate Tomasz Grodzki, in Bern on 16 August to continue the talks.

Switzerland and Poland have enjoyed very good relations for many years, including wide-ranging exchanges in the cultural and economic sectors. Friendly exchanges have also taken place at parliamentary level: following her visit to Warsaw with a delegation on 27 and 28 March, Ms Brigitte Häberli-Koller will receive the Marshal of the Polish Senate in Switzerland on 16 August.

Official talks will focus on bilateral relations and in particular on cooperation in connection with the second Swiss contribution. Poland is the partner country receiving the most support from the second Swiss contribution to selected EU member states. The implications of the Russian attack on Ukraine and the efforts made by Poland and Switzerland in this area will also be discussed. Poland has taken in more than 1.6 million displaced people since the start of Russian aggression against Ukraine on 24 February 2022, making it the primary destination for people fleeing Ukraine. The two countries' relations with the European Union and cooperation in the fields of research and innovation will also be discussed.

In addition to the official meeting with Ms Häberli-Koller, Professor Grodzki will also be received by President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset and President of the National Council Martin Candinas. Professor Grodzki, who is a surgeon and professor of medicine, will visit the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biophysics on ETH Zurich’s Hönggerberg campus and pay visits to various Polish institutions in Rapperswil.
